Praessler PRTG Network Monitor is an infrastructure monitoring solution that empowers sysadmins and IT teams to keep track of network devices around the globe. PRTG Network Monitor simplifies collecting device status and health reports and sending out alerts for unusual metrics. PRTG operates on sensor-based licensing which allows users to customize their network monitoring but can also limit the number of metrics being tracked.
While PRTG claims they can monitor network devices, bandwidth, servers, applications, virtual environments, remote systems, IoT, and more, NinjaOne allows users to monitor their IT assets and manage and patch their hardware and software. NinjaOne’s unified IT management platform provides a comprehensive suite of tools, consolidating remote monitoring and management (RMM), network management software (NMS), patch management, IT automation, remote access, backup, ticketing, and mobile device management (MDM) in one easy-to-use and seamlessly integrated platform.
NinjaOne also features accurate, real-time alerts, keeping IT environments secure and operational and minimizing vulnerabilities and downtime more effectively than PRTG’s monitoring-centric approach. In addition, PRTG’s sensor-based licensing places a hard limit on the devices and metrics that IT teams can keep track of which can mean users would need a different tool for their other IT assets.
NinjaOne’s cloud-native console can manage any devices as long as the user has an internet connection. PRTG requires a Windows server to run which can be more stable, but NinjaOne consolidates all the tools you need to monitor and manage multiple OS and mobile device monitoring and management, into a single pane of glass.
“As we grew, we started looking for tools that would help us support more clients more efficiently. We wanted something that gave us more control over endpoints and systematically keep tabs on devices. We needed a tool that would notify us when something was wrong, let us customize those alerts, and help us automate tasks…What really set NinjaOne apart for us was the great design, modern technology, and the new features that come out all the time.”

Both PRTG and NinjaOne offer powerful monitoring capabilities, but the NinjaOne offers a more complete solution that also consolidates , patching, remote access, automation, remote management tools, software deployment, backup, ticketing, and mobile device management (MDM) into a single pane of glass.
· PRTG reviews mention how difficult and time-consuming the platform’s initial implementation is, as it requires many configurations to set up core functions such as firewalls. NinjaOne’s simple design and fast onboarding processes make It a great alternative for PRTG. NinjaOne can be deployed quickly, and it doesn’t take a lot of resources to fully leverage its many features.
PRTG’s alert system can be buggy and some PRTG reviews say that some alerts do not provide details about issues. In addition, PRTG’s alerting system lacks customization options. NinjaOne has more powerful alerting that can be automated and customized precisely to users’ needs.
While NinjaOne offers seamless integration with 50+ third-party applications, PRTG’s integrations are limited to their 46 technology partners. This offers IT teams less flexibility when it comes to their IT operations.
